The ongoing 'War on Terror', as conducted by the Bush
administration, is at best a misguided effort.
The 'War on Terror' undermines
our national security in two ways.
- It multiplies our enemies by validating much of what
Bin Laden and other muslim extremists say of America.
- It drives a wedge between ourselves and other countries who might be expected to be our
natural allies in combating the dangers of terrorism.
Ultimately the 'War on Terror' must be viewed as a battle for the hearts and minds of both our
enemies and those fresh terror recruits who might be gathered to their cause.
This can not be
accomplished with bullets and bombs. Not with rockets or cruise missles. Not
with hand-grenades or with landmines. Not even suicide vests.
Thus; the single most influential thing a citizen of the world can do today is this:
firmly and resolutely decide to oppose war.
War is intuitively counter-productive to the goal of peace.
I hate to be discouraging you immediantly out of the block, brothers and sisters.
but .... here's the lowdown.
39 countries are currently at war with themselves or with their neighbors.
One thing which aggrieves Islamists about the west is our immorality. When in Iran protesters, please ... 'keep your tops on'.
